The goal of the workshop is to introduce participants to the basic materials and steps employed in most book repair work all from the comfort and safety of their own home. Participants will be virtually taught basic book repair techniques, and in the process learn about the book’s components and traditional hand bookbinding methods. Participants will deconstruct the book by removing the textblock from the front coverboard and spine; scrape off glue and any lining from the exposed spine; remove several signatures; perform paper repair; resew the book; and reattach the front coverboard and spine.
